Specialization: Reptile and Amphibian Diseases
In this specialization course we'll take a closer look at the most common diseases and illnesses in reptiles and amphibians.
The course is taught by a real authority in the veterinary medicine of herpetofauna, Dr. Tom Hellebuyck, diplomat at the European College of Zoological Medicine and head of clinic at the department of Poultry, Exotic Companion Animals, Wildlife and Laboratory Animals of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Merelbeke, Belgium.
During the training, the most common ailments in captive and wild herpetofauna are discussed and supported with didactic material. The course covers everything on the prevention, etiology, symptoms, diagnosis and therapy of these diseases and discusses newly emerging conditions in these animal groups.
Each student is provided with a handout reference work that can be taken home after the course.
This training is suitable for veterinarians, veterinary assistants, animal caretakers, students and interested hobbyists who want to learn more about this fascinating subject.
The Subjects:
- Infectious and non-infectious diseases in reptiles
In this section, the etiology, pathology, diagnosis and therapy of the most common ailments in reptiles are discussed in detail.
- Infectious and non-infectious diseases in amphibians
In this section we will take a closer look at the common diseases in frogs, toads and salamanders.
- Emerging diseases in Herpetofauna
In recent years, certain diseases have become increasingly common in these animal groups. What the consequences are and how they can be recognized is discussed in this section.
- Recognizing signs of disease in reptiles and amphibians
Recognizing symptoms in exotic animals is not always easy. Learn how to take appropriate action at an early stage.
- Administration of medication and nutritional therapy
The techniques associated with administering medication to herpetofauna are not always obvious or easy to perform. In this section the most important manipulations are explained.
